Class Act: Building Fashion College LIM's Industry Profile

The Challenge:

Laboratory Institute of Merchandising, better known as LIM, is a New York-based college dedicated to preparing students for the business side of the fashion industry. LIM was making several high-profile infrastructure investments that required enhanced media coverage.  The college engaged Fineberg Publicity for a series of media campaigns and special events to build its profile within the apparel market, strengthen its ties to top-level industry insiders, attract new students and raise awareness and funds for its programs.

Our Solutions:

Fineberg Publicity addressed LIM’s publicity and fundraising goals by creating a Friar’s Club-style roast and gala dinner to honor high-profile figures in the fashion industry with followings that would provide prospects for table sales and journal ad sales. Launched in partnership with menswear trade magazine DNR, the first LIM fundraiser honored veteran reporter Stan Gellers at The Rainbow Room, drawing a crowd of more than 300 industry VIPs from the top companies in menswear, retailers and the media. The event raised more than $100,000 for the LIM Fashion Education Foundation.  Subsequent galas honored Robert Bryan, the respected men’s fashion director of The New York Times Magazine, and Elyse Kroll, the influential founder of the trade show company ENK.

As part of the ongoing campaign to associate LIM with top figures in the apparel industry, Fineberg Publicity developed sustained coverage for the school’s special events honoring fashion luminaries such as designers Zac Posen and Oleg Cassini, CosmoGirl editor-in-chief Atoosa Rubenstein, Estee Lauder senior vice president Evelyn Lauder and Scoop founder Stefani Greenfield, among others.

In addition to promoting LIM’s many events, Fineberg Publicity publicized the school’s most important resources --- its teachers and students. To this end, we continually sought out media opportunities for LIM faculty to comment on apparel industry business trends or to highlight the college’s innovative curriculum in key media that would expose the school’s activities to potential students and industry supporters. Scoring high-profile editorials in major trade publications, business news outlets and education media, our efforts for LIM, the fashion business college, scored an A+.
